A Trip to Mars with Curiosity
Scroll Down to Lift Off
3, 2, 1, ... LIFTOFF! On Nov. 26, 2011 I left our planet in a spaceship called Atlas V
Our journey is going to be a long one, so sit tight!
Atlas V can carry me at a maximum speed of 47,000 miles per hour. At this rate, it would take me just 5 minutes to circle the globe!
But even at this speed, it will take me about 7 months to reach Mars!
To see me in 3d !
I have now detached from the rocket in what's called a 'Cruise Ship'. This is the spaceship that will help me land on Mars.
In the meantime, engineers back on Earth are making final adjustments to my landing path.
On August 5th 2012, I landed safely on Mars, 186 million miles away from home! You can see my landing site on the right.
Now let's have a better look at what I discovered in Mars
